Refining a Titan- Intercooler Pipe Kit R&D, Part 2: Prototype Fabrication

In our last post, we ended with a rendering of the Nissan Titan XD intercooler pipes and the jig that we plan to use to fabricate them. Since then, we began fabricating our prototypes and testing fitment.

Before we could begin welding our prototypes, we first had to fabricate our jig. With the help of the trusty waterjet, we sliced the pieces for the jig and began assembling them.

With the jig assembled, Mike fired up the welder and got to work on our prototype. Although the measurements that we took with our CMM (coordinate measuring machine) in the last post should be accurate, we tack-welded the pipes first to check fitment on our Titan.

Looks like our jig is spot on! With fitment confirmed, it was up to Mike to finish our prototypes.

  1. Any Performance details you can provide on this part now that is on presale. Any HP/TQ gains? quicker spool time? CFM increase? Sorry I like to know the details on items I purchase.

    1. Hi Darren,

      All great questions! We chose to keep the diameter of the piping the same as stock, so without increasing the diameter of the piping there will be no gains as far as power. There is no guarantee that even increasing diameter will make power by itself. We did slightly change the bends in the piping to flow better, but this subtle change will most likely not have an effect on power.

      This version of the Titan pipe and boot kit was intended to be a protective item. When we first examined the stock piping, we found rust present in the stock cold-side pipe. So we did not want to delay in releasing them for those who want the protection of rust-free aluminum pipes.
